Reconcile against the bank’s own file

Upload the export your bank already gives you, tick off what matches, and read a statement of exactly what still disagrees and why.

Import the feed

CSV or Excel, mapped to the columns your bank happens to use. Where the feed carries its own transaction reference, a re-import of an overlapping period is skipped rather than duplicated. Where it does not, a same-day same-amount repeat is flagged as a possible duplicate and still imported — two genuinely separate transactions that look identical are not rare on a real statement, and dropping one silently is worse than showing both.

Match it, one to one

Two panels side by side: the bank feed in the bank’s own convention, and the ledger movements on that account in the ledger’s. Ticking rows on both sides pairs them; an amount or a direction that cannot pair disables the button and says why, so a match the screen offers is a match the server accepts. Any candidate that traces back to a cheque is badged, so you can mark the cheque cleared as a follow-up.

The reconciliation statement

Balance per bank statement, add deposits in transit, less outstanding cheques, adjusted bank balance — then balance per ledger, add unrecorded bank credits, less unrecorded charges, adjusted book balance, and the difference. The two adjusted figures are an identity rather than four independent sums: items in transit are measured as at the reconciliation date rather than by their current status, and reconciling items begin where your imported bank data begins, so a first reconciliation does not report your account’s entire history as outstanding.

Finalize and keep the history

Finalizing snapshots the reconciliation as at a date. A non-zero difference never blocks it — a difference is a finding, and recording it is how it gets investigated. Correcting a finalized reconciliation is a new snapshot, never an edit.

Questions, answered

Does it connect to my bank automatically?

No. You upload the file your bank exports. There is no open-banking feed, and we would rather say so than imply a live connection that does not exist.

What if the bank shows something my books have never seen?

Record it through the manual journal entry screen, then match it. Bank charges and interest usually arrive this way. Nothing in the reconciliation posts entries on your behalf — an amount enters the books in exactly one place.
